The Furlong/Firkin/Fortnight (FFF) system is a “set of units that uses impractical measurements not seriously deemed suitable for scientific or engineering use”. The fundamental unit of time in the FFF system, the microfortnight, is equivalent to 1.2096 seconds (two weeks = 1,209,600 seconds). As a fortnight spans 14 days and the word microfortnight itself contains 14 characters, LQQK reasoned that if we were to organize an art exhibition titled Microfortnight, it should be comprised of 14 artists who’s names can be displayed in 14 characters and last three-hours and twenty six minutes (14x14 / 60).
The works are uniform in size and format, each a 24” x 36” black & white print on bond. You might think 24x36 + bond somehow relate to the theme, as the other conditions are rather specific. You would be wrong; it’s just an easy + cheap format and LQQK well, we’re not exactly Oprah-rich. We do however, happen to know an interesting mix of people who’s names fit the rule.
The after-party will feature guest DJs, and we’ve got a little bar right in the gallery. After the opening, works will be online for free download. In return for the download, we’re asking you to make a donation to relief efforts in Japan through the organization of your choice.
